I have 2 society finches, and can't tell if they are male or female. However, one has begun constantly sitting?

in the roosting nest. I see no eggs...Do they sit in the box constantly waiting for eggs to come? Or are the eggs so tiny I can't see them in all the newspaper and hay clippings???
