The other answerers are completely right. You shouldn't feel like you are coming off as gay to anyone. Unless you two act sorta affectionate towards each other, are always touching, or holding hands or have your arms around each other, then you have absolutely nothing to worry about. When I see two guys hanging out all the time, I automatically think "best buds" and not "lovers". Same with girls. Unless you two are acting affectionate towards each other, there will be no reason for you to worry about people thinking you are gay.
