Do you think Scared Straight actually works?

I remember watching the first 2 Scared Straight specials when I was in school. They didn't scare me then and I can't imagine that they scare anyone now. I get that it's supposed to deter bad kids from their criminal activity but I don't think it's that effective. What do you think?
